DPD (Switzerland) AG celebrates its 25th anniversary
Buchs (ZH), 14 March 2018. A successful business: in Switzerland, DPD is the largest private express and parcels service provider, and with 900 employees and drivers it delivers more than 16 million parcels to companies and private individuals every year. This year DPD (Switzerland) AG celebrates its 25th anniversary.
DPD (Switzerland) AG was founded in 1993. The first depot was in Schaffhausen – at that time just a small warehouse with a manual sorting system.
Today DPD (Switzerland) AG can look back on 25 years of corporate history and has twelve sites in Switzerland, 300 employees and about 600 drivers.
Since 2010, the company headquarters has been located in Buchs ZH. DPD (Switzerland) AG delivers about 65,000 parcels every day.
The company has been owned since 2001 by the parent company GeoPost, which combines all of its parcel delivery networks under the name DPDgroup, making it the second-largest parcel and courier services provider in Europe. “We are an international company. But each European business unit is free to adapt its domestic services to its own national circumstances. For example, the direct delivery of parcels into unlocked mailboxes is unique and only possible in Switzerland.”
Tilmann Schultze, who was born in Greece and grew up in France, has been CEO at DPD in Switzerland for two years: “DPD has become firmly established in Switzerland over the last 25 years, both as a CEP service provider and as an employer. DPD (Switzerland) AG is enjoying steady continuous growth.”
The recipient decides on the time of delivery
Among the important milestones in the history of DPD (Switzerland) AG were the launch of Pickup services in 2009 and the introduction of Predict in 2013. Predict enables recipients to find out on the day of delivery exactly when, to within an hour, their parcel will arrive. If a parcel was shipped using the Predict additional service, the recipient receives a message via SMS or email with a link to Follow My Parcel, another innovative product that became established on the Swiss market in 2017. Follow My Parcel enables recipients to track their parcel live and if necessary redirect it up to 15 minutes before delivery. With this pioneering product, DPD (Switzerland) AG has responded to growing demand from the market and pleased both customers and recipients equally.
And what does the future hold? “A new DPD app that enables people to send and receive parcels easily and conveniently using their mobile phones.” “Saturday and evening deliveries are more and more in demand - we are already offering these services in a few towns in Switzerland.” declares Tilmann Schultze.
